Celebrating Senior Night for Fall Sports
The senior soccer players are honored for Senior Night.

Imagine you’re in the crisp autumn air, there is a bright blue sky, classmates and teachers cheering you on. Or perhaps you are under the bright gym lights, with cheers from the fans echoing off the walls, as the ball flies past the net. You hit the ball back to score. Your team and fans cheer! This is the environment of senior night as Grier’s soccer, tennis, and volleyball teams played their final home games of the season against our rival, Mercersburg Academy, and honored their senior players.

Each game started with a ceremony in which the seniors were recognized, receiving posters of their headshot, flowers, and a balloon. Coaches spoke about the amazing leaders that our seniors have been on and off the playing fields.

Once the games began, the volleyball team played very hard and never gave up, which led to an outstanding game. Co-captain Cici Chu ‘26 described her thoughts during the game. “When we were playing, the only thing on my mind was… please let us win this.” The team did indeed win their last game with a final score of 3-0 thanks to the hard work of the players and the supportive enthusiasm of the fans. Chu explained that teamwork was a key to the group’s success. “One of our deadly qualities is how enthusiastic we are,” said Chu.

The soccer team played a tough match with good speed, communication, and precision. The game ended with a tied score of 2-2. Co-captain Natalie Kelsey, ‘26, spoke about the team’s mindset. “I think we came together,” said Kelsey. It was our last game, and we wanted to leave it all out on the field.” Their hard work paid off and they ended their season with a game that really highlighted their skill and growth.

Emotions ran high as the seniors finished their final formal game at Grier. “I’ve played for five years, so it’s a bittersweet moment for me,” said Kelsey. “It’s the end of my soccer career at Grier, but I’m excited to play club in college. I will miss you guys so much.”

The tennis team brought home yet another win, after remaining undefeated 8–0 for the whole season. Their senior night match was one for the books, with close matches, and impressive victories. “The game was great,” said co-captain Eva Kozeska, ‘26. “I would not change a thing.”

This season was definitely memorable for the team, especially as they welcomed new coach Nick Margiasso, whom the girls loved. They learned a lot throughout the year, including the drive it takes to improve your game. “When you play, you can’t just count if you win or not,” said Kozeska. “In the process of playing you have to think ‘What did I struggle with?’ and ‘How can I improve with that?’’ The team definitely showed their desire to work hard and improve this year. An undefeated season is a great way to end their senior season!

Despite the sadness about our amazing seniors leaving, these girls have paved their path and left their mark on the teams forever. This was definitely a senior night to remember.
