It’s Time to Spill the Tea

On September 16th a budding tradition took place for the second time ever in the 1853 Student Center. This tradition is none other than Mrs. Grier’s tea party, a formal get-together for Grier’s middle schoolers. The tea party was held for the first time last year, and there is no intention of it stopping. Mrs. Grier founded the tea party on ideals centered around welcoming and celebrating Grier’s younger students, “They’re starting their journey,” she said. “It’s important to celebrate that and celebrate a new beginning, and this is a really nice way to practice that.”

Mrs. Grier’s tea party is building a foundation where new and young Grier girls can meld into their new community and create friends.  “I like how the tea party lets us interact with our friends and expand our friend groups. It also teaches us proper etiquette,” said Lilliana Fadakar ‘30.

Jasmine Mendes 31’ attended the Grier tea party after just her second day at Grier. When asked how she was settling in with her peers, Jasmine responded saying, “They’ve been very welcoming and so far, I love it here!” She further remarked on how the tea party has and will benefit new students like her integrating into the Grier community.

This tea party is a great time to honor the students just starting out on their journey at Grier. Mrs. Grier highlights this by explaining that one of her inspirations for starting the tea party was to give the youngest Grier girls recognition. “The seniors get a lot of attention at the end of the school year, so it’s nice at the beginning of the school year to give our youngest students some attention.”

Mrs. Grier continues to express her excitement for how the tea party will develop throughout the years, pointing out that next year marks the 3rd tea party, marking it as an annual event. So far, Mrs. Grier’s tea party has been a hit and is on the way to strengthening the bonds of friendship for many years to come.
