Dearest Grier,
I am so amazed that this is already the beginning of a new school year! With a new year comes new challenges, experiences, and responsibilities, and my newest responsibility is that of the Editor-in-Chief of The Cricket. I am so thankful for this opportunity, and I hope my staff and I can bring you articles that are entertaining and reliable. I have some big shoes to fill, with last year’s Editors-in-Chiefs, Sara Vélez Patiño and Quinn Stewart, now away at college.
I joined The Cricket last year, at the behest of Sara, and, as a multi-sport athlete, promptly became the Sports Editor at the end of our winter varsity season. Grier has no spring sports; however, I didn’t let that stop me from writing articles about anything under the sun, and journalism has become a newly discovered passion of mine. I love learning about new things, and working on the newspaper has allowed me to learn about the lives and passions of my fellow students. Also, if you’ve noticed the titles of my previous articles, you know I have learned to love a good cheesy headline.
At this point in my letter, I’d like to plug our club and remind our students that The Cricket is always looking for new members, even if you are a busy individual. It is truly such a rewarding experience, and it genuinely helps your writing capabilities, no matter your level of experience. And, if you can’t commit to the club, we are always open to your ideas if you have particular types of articles you’d like to read more of!
I am looking forward to this year because I know it is going to be so fun and enriching, but at the same time it is also bittersweet for me, as it is my senior year. I hope you will tune in for future articles, and we at The Cricket wish you all a joyful and successful school year!
Best wishes,
Natalie Kelsey
