It’s back and better than ever: Spirit Week! This Spirit Week offered not only opportunities for fun and silly outfits, but also raised awareness for military families and the environment.

Monday was Dress-Up Day, held in honor of our seniors for the Senior Symposium. Audience members were dressed formally as they watched the seniors present their research papers on topics of their choice. However, what made the event even more impressive was the crowd’s supportive and professional atmosphere.
Tuesday was Purple Day. Students wore purple clothes or purple ribbons in support of children of military families. The event was organized by Sydney Smith, ‘26, to raise awareness for these families. “There isn’t a lot of awareness for military kids, but we’re here,” Sydney said. Ms. Lawler said during assembly that wearing purple for Military Kids Awareness Day is set to become a Grier tradition for years to come.
Wednesday was Dress as a Book Character Day. Students and teachers embraced dressing as their literary icons. Characters from “Matilda” showed up as Aranza Alcala, ‘25, Isa Alcala, ‘27, and Ms. Ondrey dressed as Matilda, Ms. Trunchbull, and Ms. Honey respectively. Mr. Llewellyn took the day seriously as well, dressing as the crocodile from “Peter Pan” in a crocodile onesie.

On Thursday, there was a generation fashion swap. The theme was Millennial vs. Gen Z Day. Teachers wore hoodies, sweatpants, and middle parts, while students rocked their side parts, skinny jeans, and formal shirts. Sara Vélez Patiño shared, “I was going for the cringe millennial look.”
Friday was a celebration of Earth Day with Dress-as-a-Hippie Day, or Flower Child Day. Students went out to plant trees for community service, wearing clothes they could get dirty and doing good for the Earth. The carefree, peaceful, and environmentally-friendly hippie energy was in the air all day.
This year’s Spirit Week brought both the energy and the meaning. With silly outfits and support of important causes, the week offered both fun and thoughtful reflection.
