So many amazing events happened at Grier this winter. We wanted to recap some of the biggest moments that helped spread joy during the cold winter months.

The winter season kicked off on a high for the riders with a show at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida. They attended the show during winter break and spent two weeks in the world-class facility.
Some of the rider’s favorite highlights of this show were watching their teammates, going shopping, and winning awards.
Riders who took home prizes included Anleigh Ahlert, Lara Barjakly, Ava Bives, Vivian Bives, Ariana Froning, Izzy Maroko, Marian Pownall, Hazel Pratts, Dasha Belopolsky, and Natalie Townsend. Riding Grier and privately-owned horses, the girls brought home not only ribbons, but lasting memories.

To commemorate the life and pursuits of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 20th, students and faculty gathered to watch the production of “Soul Sounds,” performed by Key Arts Productions. The celebration was performed with music that spanned from Dr. King’s childhood to the present day. The event connected Grier students and even gave them the chance to dance and sing along.

During the beginning of February, nearly 30 Grier students participated in community service at Tyrone Elementary School. Students were partnered in groups of two, with one reading a book in English to the kids and the other translating in a different language. They read in eight languages, including Russian, French, Vietnamese, German, Amharic, Spanish, English, and Arabic.
This event gave the girls the opportunity to spread culture to students who might not have had the chance to experience it otherwise.

On February 17th, Grier celebrated Galentine’s Day: a day for hanging out with friends, eating fun treats, and getting some well-earned rest.
The day kicked off with a two-hour delay before the annual 7th and 8th grade bake sale in the auditorium. The middle schoolers spent weeks organizing the sale and collected an abundance of donations from faculty and staff.
The school was filled with activities and stations, giving students a choice of where they wanted to spend their time. There were plenty of sweets and drinks spread around campus, as well as friendship bracelets, movies, cards, headbands, and more.
The library held headband-making with pipe cleaners and pompoms, while 1853 offered friendship bracelet kits. The art building was filled with students crafting gnome plushies and enjoying mocktails made by Ms. Piotti. As the day continued, some students made cards for their friends in the living room, while others chose to watch “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “Mamma Mia” in the dance building. Students enjoyed their day of rest and camaraderie during a busy winter season.

As spring started to creep in, the cold but memorable winter season ended with the Grier Fashion Show on February 28th. This show was hosted by the Fashion Club and was the result of months of hard work and preparation.
The event was put together and led by the founders of Fashion Club, Sara Vélez Patiño,‘25, and Aysu Asgarova,‘27, as well as Ms. Piotti, costume design teacher and Art Department Chair. All the pieces were handmade, and several were crafted from completely sustainable or upcycled materials.
This show highlighted the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry through a fun show that brought students together before they departed for Spring Break to close out the winter season.
