Though it may be cold and icy outside, Grier’s halls were warm with love and friendship on Monday, February 17th as Grier celebrated Galentine’s Day. Galentine’s Day is a day dedicated to allowing students to relax with friends while engaging in several fun and creative activities. After getting a nice two-hour sleep-in, students chose from several activities, including card making, the creation of sock gnomes, headband crafting, friendship bracelet design, and watching a movie.

The annual 7th and 8th grade Bake Sale opened at 10:30am in the auditorium. 7th and 8th graders spent weeks organizing donations of baked goods from faculty, students, and staff. Students vouchered $5 for a small paper bag which they filled with 7-8 sweet treats. Some of the mouth-watering treats included chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, cake pops, chocolate-dipped pretzel sticks, and much more. Students crowded around tables trying to decide which desserts to choose from. “I love the bake sale because they always have a lot of good food,” said Palmer Kellogg, ‘26.

In the library, pipe cleaners, pompoms, and cookie cutters were laid out, allowing students to get creative with their headband making. Students came up with a variety of designs, incorporating different pipe cleaners and pompoms of varying sizes and colors to make many various beautiful headbands. Some were especially creative, making hearts and other shapes out of the pipe cleaners.

In 1853, students used yarn to make friendship bracelets for both themselves and friends. “Making friendship bracelets was my favorite because I got to relax and chill with my friends and sit in comfy chairs,” said Lorena Liu, ‘26.

While students sipped on mocktail piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris made by our very own Ms. Piotti in the art building, they combined stones, stuffing, and socks to make gnome plushies, also known as “gnomies.” “The gnomes were my favorite because I got to hot glue gun and personalize mine,” said Emily Frantz, ‘25.

In the living room, students made cards for their Galentines, masterfully combining different colors of construction paper and stickers to write meaningful notes to friends. These were later delivered by student volunteers who helped spread love.

Students watched “Mamma Mia!” and “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” in the dance building. During “Mamma Mia!” you could hear girls happily singing along to classic ABBA songs, which gave a little touch of fun to the already wholesome event.

Overall, Galentine’s Day at Grier brought a day of love, relaxation and fun with friends, and it’s safe to say we’ll be looking forward to it next year!
